So How is the XBox 360?
It's really a very well-designed system. For all MS skeptics, be open-minded here. This is something I think most will agree is well done.
Console
- This console is small and visually appealing.
- The power-supply is BIG but fortunately it's behind my entertainment center.
- The wireless controller is awesome, but you will definitely want the Play and Charge Kit
- You can turn off and on the console with the controller...awesome for us couch potatoes
- The XBox 360 Live headset is much better than the original
XBox 360 Software
- No doubt Microsoft did well with the software. The blades work well and you can grab all kinds of skins to customize it the way you like. Very easy to navigate
- You can get back to your XBox Live account from anywhere, in any game, just hit the X button in the middle of the controller...great
- You can also get back the XBox Dashboard from anywhere...Hit the X button and then the Y button...great
- You can shut down the console. Hold the X button long enough and you'll be given the option.
- The ability to download arcade games is just great, especially for people old enough to remember the Atari 2600
- Downloading movie trailers is fantastic
- Gamer card stuff is so great...just wish I wasn't so old. If I was 15 I would probably have tons of gamers online I knew.
Media Center Extender (Love this)
- Having the XBox 360 as a Media Center PC extender is such a great feature. If you have a Media Center PC, then you can view all of your media content on the XBox 360. My understanding is that this will be included in all version of the next version of Windows...Vista
- I bought a Media Center remote controller since I have a Media Center PC
- I can view all of my photos on my TV via my XBox 360 connected through my wireless home network...My wife even appreciated this.
- I can also via all of my videos...I recently downloaded the latest Diggnation video podcast and watched it on TV instead of my PC..my wife rolled her eyes
- All of my music in my media library on my PC can be listened to on my XBox 360 via the Media Center Extender...Get a playlist going along with some photo sets and I can see it as being great for parties.
- I may need to get a TV Tuner card for my Media Center PC. Then I can replace my ReplayTV and schedule recordings of TV and view them via my XBox 360
- Setting this up was very easy..My Media Center PC immediately recognized when I added my XBox 360 to my network
- Definitely recommend at least 802.11g for this to stream video.
Ok...Games.
- Weird that this would be the last thing I mentioned. I love gaming, but I was quite sure it would be great. The Media Center PC things are all unexpectedly great things about XBox 360
- I have 3 games so far...Call of Duty 2, NBA Live 2006, and Fight Night 3
- Call of Duty 2 is by far my favorite. I like 1st person shooters and this is right up there with the best of them. The whole campaign was very fun. The XBox Live stuff is turning out to be great fun as well. I just need to get better.
- Fight Night 3 is really cool. The game play is absolutely fantastic. I am finding the KO and Stun punched pretty hard to get down. I guess that's good, but frustrating. One thing I am dissappointed in is the audio commentary. Not very smart in my opinion.
- NBA Live 2006 is a very fun game. As I play it more and learn it I think it will be more fun. The graphics are very good and the Play-by-Play with Marv Albert is amazing.
I'll keep this updated as I play more.
