TechCrunch Loses Natali Del Conti
I was surprised today to read that recently hired
TechCrunch
writer, Natali Del Conti, left for another job. For those of you who don't know, TechCrunch is an interesting blog with posts about new, up-and-coming web services...things like
YouTube
,
Flickr
, etc. In addition to posts by Michael Arrington, who runs the show, there are contributing writers. Natali was one of them.
It's hard to tell, but it appears that lots of readers were criticizing Natali's posts. Some of the nastier comments were sexist. I'm waiting to read more directly from her on the situation, but it appears (
here
and
here
) that it certainly had a lot to do with it.
I really wish Natali had stuck it out. I liked her posts and I'm sure she would have gotten better with time. It just irks me that a bunch of over-grown teenagers' comments could cause her to move on. Of course, if these commenters ever had to engage in a real human-to-human interaction with her, they wouldn't have the guts to speak that way. Whether its sexism or just plain viciousness, it's all over the net and always has been.
In any event, Natali, best of luck to you. I have no doubt you'll move on and do great things. Don't let this bum you out too much.
