Flickr Adds Geo Tagging

In line with my last post, it seems Flickr has added a new Geo Tagging feature to its site. See TechCrunch for the details. Seems cool enough. You can drag your photos onto a map and then position them where they were actually taken. Nice AJAX support makes the drag-drop stuff very easy and something you wouldn't see on the web 2 years ago before AJAX became the hot new thing. Cool as it is, something about having to manually place the photos on the map leaves me wanting more. In case you haven't already, do read my last post for what it is that I really want.

I applaud Flickr and Yahoo for this stuff and it's obviously been a big hit, but come on, it's 2006 and we should have GPS baked into our devices by now. Sure it may seem that it's a geek niche, but advertisers and businesses should realize the potential of this and get it implemented into the devices.
