Ubuntu Linux on Microsoft Virtual PC 2004
I recently installed Ubuntu Linux under Virtual PC 2004 and hit some snags along the way. I'm writing them down for future reference. Here's what happened...
I downloaded the Ubuntu iso, created a new virtual machine, mounted the iso and began the installation. Right as installation began, I received a couple of error messages (should have written them down). Googling the error messages didn't help. Finally, I checked the settings for my virtual machine and lowered the amount of memory from 768MB to 512MB. Voila! The installation proceeded without a hitch.
So, for all you Virtual PC guys out there, keep the memory at or below 512MB. I'm not sure if increasing it after installation will cause any problems. I'll have to try that out.
Ubuntu seems nice so far. I'll have to see if I can get Apache and Python installed and see how building apps goes.
